Skenandore Wilson LLP is offering a Summer Associate position to law students who have an interest in Tribal law and advocacy to join our team. This is largely a remote position based out of our Madison, Wisconsin office, but summer associates will work with Skenandore Wilson LLP attorneys and on client matters from both the Madison, Wisconsin and Washington, D.C. offices. The position is eight (8) weeks from June 1 – July 31, 2026.

JOB SUMMARY: Skenandore Wilson LLP seeks an experienced, career-track paralegal/legal assistant with substantial work experience in general practice, full service, or a specialized boutique law firm to contribute at our Firm as lead paralegal on large, complex cases in the field of American Indian law. Under the general supervision and direction of the attorneys on assigned matters, the Senior Paralegal would support the delivery of quality legal services to clients by performing tasks that require the regular exercise of advanced judgment as to the method and manner of performing services, significant substantive knowledge and specialization in their areas of expertise, delegation skills, advanced organizational and issue identification skills, strong written and oral communication skills, and advanced computer skills. This position works under moderate supervision and exercises a high level of discretion and independent judgment.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Certification in a paralegal program with either the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA), the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA), the National Association for Legal Support Professionals (NALS), other ABA-approved paralegal program, or has significant paralegal experience.
-
Experience: Minimum five (5) years work experience as a paralegal and legal assistant in general practice, full service or specialized boutique law firm.
-
Knowledge of and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software (Word, Outlook, Excel), and other law office software used by law firms (Westlaw, Clio, etc.).
-
Experience with all stages of litigation, including research, intake, discovery, depositions, document preparation, proofing, trial, settlements and appeals.
-
Experience developing and maintaining processes to collect, store, and maintain paper and electronic case files per internal and external requirements.
-
Excellent analytical skills, a strong sense of accountability and attention to detail.
-
Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to work concurrently on a variety of projects with changing priorities.
-
Strong time management skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and work as a team.
-
Ability to convey information to individuals within the Firm, clients, vendors, or Tribal and court officials in a courteous and professional manner, with strong service orientation.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

Experience working with American Indian Tribal governments, or law firms or attorneys in the field of American Indian law.

Experience working on real estate and corporate transactions.

Experience preparing for and attending trials, mediations, arbitrations and hearings.

Proficient with cite-checking and adherence to applicable judicial rules.

Experience coordinating trial and arbitration logistics, including negotiating for workspace, setting-up remote office space, and coordinating with vendors.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Organize, manage, and maintain legal documents, both physical and electronic, using specialized software and adhering to firm policies and guidelines, ensuring all documents are organized, up-to-date, and easily accessible.

Perform all elements of proactive litigation case management, including file management, discovery, and trial activities.

Implement case calendaring system to track filings, reminders and appropriately distribute information internally and externally.

Coordinate, oversee and ensure task completion by assigned attorneys, paralegals and other support staff on each matter assigned.

Interact professionally with outside entities and Firm employees to create and maintain effective and professional working relationships with others and facilitate a positive and productive work environment.

Provide assistance with case settlements and closure of matters.

Facilitate communication between attorneys, clients, witnesses, and other parties involved in the litigation process or other Firm work, ensuring clear and timely exchange of information.

Stay up-to-date with changes in litigation and other rules, regulations, and procedures, and ensure compliance with ethical and professional standards.
